Heroes Beneath the Waves was written to honor my husband and our friends and new friends. It was written for family members to help understand what their love ones went through and hopefully, create happier families. Don't forget my books and photographs make nice Christmas gifts.

A Special Christmas Book for Teens

A special Christmas book for teens:

An adventure book for teens. "Heroes Beneath the Waves: Submarines Stories of the Twentieth Century", is filled with true stories of teen-age boys who left home to experience adventures of a lifetime. Many had never been away from home, yet they dreamed of riding a large submarine to the depths of oceans and seas, and to travel ashore in countries they only read and dreamed about.

Remembering Twelve

   Remembering Twelve
Do I want to remember
when I was twelve
so long ago,
When I was suffering
between being a kid
and a teenage brat.
Making demands
no one understood.
Dreams of
faraway places
I wanted to run.
I wanted to explore.
I wanted to be
like the city kids.
I was tired of being
a country kid.

BLOSSOMS OF LIFE
    © by Mary Nida Smith

The little dogwood
Each year blossomed.
Blossoms of hope
sharing with the world
located by a chair
with watchful eyes,
busy controlling a dreamer
behind a window in view.
The dreamer begged to breathe
life into her creations
and the little dogwood
viewed from her window
stood silent, no moisture.
Their pleads fell on deaf ears.
Slowly, the little dogwood died.
The dreamer slowly
closed the door
allowing dreams to fade.
Without nourishment
 and tender care
blossoms of life
withers and painfully dies.

Nathan Hendrickson Script Writer and Director

https://blood-wiki.org/index.php/Nathan_Hendrickson My nephew. I sent him two of my short stories that needed work that I wasn't going to finish. I thought it was best if he could make something out of them, instead of me throwing them away, or just setting in a file.

Press Release

Mary Nida Smith Press Release.

My book "Heroes Beneath the Waves: Submarine Stories of the Twentieth Century" is an easy read for preteens and up, to learn more about the U.S. Navy Submarine Service and the men who served. Hopefully, family members and friends will understand why their love one, who served, will not talk about it. The submariners were taught "Loose lips Sink Ships." I tried to gather stories and information that would help young kids, wives, and others to have a better understand what happens below the sea and of the ones, who never returned, as sea became their final grave. Skyhorse Publishing Inc.

My poem Cowboy Jo was selected to be published in 2017 publication of "SILO." The College of Southern Idaho's literary journal: http://www.csi.edu/silo.
I am honored to be selected in a town I spent nine years. Where I was involved with Idaho Writers League (President Twin Falls Chapter) and where my freelance writing and doing illustrations took off. I always try to make the best out of all the places I have been - each was a learning adventure. God is always at work. I feel so blessed.

I was invited by J. Patrick Lewis, former U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate (2011-2013) to write an Arkansas poem (with his guidance) for "the Poetry of US" by Mr. Lewis for National Geographic that was released fall of 2018.

Nature Poem

Nature’s Chapel

My woodland garden
Filled with trees are
The steeple overhead
Floor carpet is supplied
By Nature’s green plants.
Benches to rest, listening
To the bird choir sing
As I bow my head in prayer
Calming,
            a broken heart.

Life's Battles.

I had a goal since I was in the second grade; I wanted to try everything that had to do with the creative world. Its been crazy, with battles of life, getting in-between me and all my dreams. I kept swimming up stream and never gave up. With God I was able to touch land and rejoice. I learned the hard way, this country gal built a lot of determination living on a farm with no electricity or water. If you care to check my credits/bio, you'll find them on https://marynidasmith.blogspot.com  August 20, 2018. Thank you.
